All club members should have received an email about the fly tying swap that Gianna Holle is organizing. This is just a secondary reminder. Gianna's idea is to test interest in tying and sharing flies among members. Starting with an initial round of up to nine tiers, each of whom will tie ten copies of a fly of their choice, Gianna will collect the flies and distribute one of each to all the participants. It's a great way to get some time at the bench and to collect some great flies tied by your friends. If interest is high, we'll hold more of these swaps in the coming months. Here are Gianna's instructions:
The WIFFC would like to offer a fly tying swap. All tiers, regardless of skill level, are encouraged to participate. This isn't a contest, and we're are not looking for perfection. It's an opportunity for individuals to work on their fly tying skills and gain new flies for their fly boxes. Initially, we're limiting the event to nine (9) participants. If this works out, we'll have more such swaps and open it to more participants. Here's what you do:
Send a text or email to the SwapMaster, Gianna Holle, saying “I'm in”. (Contact info below). With the limited participation allowed in this first round, make contact quickly and no later than February 7. Your participation will be confirmed by reply text or email.
Each participant will tie one more fly than the total number of participants (10 flies max)--one for each participant (including yourself), and one to be donated to our WIFFC president as a thank you for all his hard work during this challenging year. Tie whatever fly you like: an old favorite, a new experiment, dry, wet, streamer, whatever, but make all your flies of the same pattern.
Once you have tied the flies, identify each with a "toe tag"--a small piece of paper attached to the bend of the hook with tier's name and the name of the fly pattern.
Place the flies in a crushproof box (please, no expensive fly boxes) and mail or deliver your flies to the SWAPMASTER no later than March 3rd.
The Swapmaster will then gather all of the files and ensure each participate gets an assortment of the flies tied.
