Peter Tobin and I, along with his long time fishing friend from Thailand, traveled to the Colville Reservation to fish North Twin Lake. Weather was hot (mid-80s) by WI standards. Traveled over Route 20 to Omak. First fished Omak Lake for a half day, then on to the Rainbow Resort.
We had really nice clear weather and finally on the Wednesday figured out how to catch the monster trout in this relatively large lake. We brought along my drift boat but decided to use our Outcast Stealth Pro and Watermaster boats instead. I successfully fished streamers (white bunny leaches with trailing Royal Coachmen streamers). There are a couple of smaller lakes near to the Twin Lakes that are open to non-tribal members. We wasted a day locating and fishing these smaller lakes. Biggest fish caught at North Twin was probably 30 inches (9-10 lbs) on a 5 wt intermediate line. Needed help with a bigger net to land this rainbow. My cellphone camera cache was full so my camera failed when I tried to capture a photo before releasing the trout. Most we caught were in the 18-22 inch class.
FYI: The cafe for dinner at South Twin Lake Lodge is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays! Next time we will remember to stock up on food prior to going on this trip. Otherwise a really good time!!!
Nice report. Thanks for posting it.
